Jeremiah Karua lives in a bustling household with eight family members. This farmer has been hit hard by prolonged drought in parts of Kenya. As a result, his family—like many others in the region—often did not have enough food to eat.
Jeremiah would reach out to neighbours for food, but this support was limited. With so many families facing the same hardship, there was simply not enough to go around.
“We could eat very little once a day,” Jeremiah says, recalling how his children would cry from hunger. “The situation was worse, especially for my five children attending school. Without a school feeding program, their only food was hope for a better tomorrow.”
A Turning Point
Relief came when World Renew’s local partner, Anglican Development Services Mt. Kenya East, provided Jeremiah’s family with a cash transfer to help meet their most urgent food needs.
This support made an immediate and meaningful difference. With the ability to purchase food, Jeremiah’s family regained strength and stability—building a foundation for the future.
“We now have enough quality food for three meals a day. The children are able to attend their lessons comfortably and do not have to drop out because of hunger,” says Jeremiah. “I thank God for the support.”
Hope Amid Ongoing Challenges
Across East Africa, many families continue to face complex challenges, including conflict, displacement, and extreme weather. Periods of drought have been followed by heavy rains and flash floods, compounding the difficulties for communities that rely on farming and livestock.
Your continued care and prayer can make a difference. Pray for peace for families affected by conflict and for communities welcoming those who have been displaced. Pray for wisdom and strength for local teams working to bring hope where it is needed most. And pray for stable weather patterns that will allow families to grow food, rebuild livelihoods, and look toward a more secure future.
