Refugee Sponsorship in Canada

Refugees fleeing their homes need safety—and a chance to start again. Since 1979, World Renew has helped sponsor over 11,000 refugees to rebuild their lives in Canada.

How We Help

World Renew works with churches and sponsoring groups to welcome refugees and support them as they rebuild their lives in Canada. As a Sponsorship Agreement Holder with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, we guide sponsors through every step of the resettlement process—from application to arrival and beyond.

FAQs

Refugee sponsorship is a meaningful journey—and often comes with questions. Here are some answers to help you learn more and get started.

How is World Renew able to support refugee sponsorship and resettlement?

World Renew is a Sponsorship Agreement Holder organization. Our signed agreement with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada allows us to help sponsor refugees to resettle in Canada.

World Renew does not sponsor refugees directly, but instead partners with Constituent Groups to sponsor refugees under our agreement.

World Renew partners with Constituent Groups to support them with completing application forms, meeting government requirements, and training and equipping for healthy sponsorship. We submit the application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and correspond on behalf of the Constituent Group throughout the application process and the overseas processing at the Canadian migration office. We also support Constituent Groups after the sponsored refugees’ arrival throughout the settlement year (their first year in Canada).

World Renew partners with Constituent Groups to sponsor refugees, such as a faith-based organization or any registered charity approved to sponsor by World Renew. Examples include, but are not limited to: a church, a community organization, a synagogue, or a mosque. Constituent Groups are fully responsible for the financial and settlement support for the refugees they are sponsoring for their first year in Canada.

Unfortunately, due to the large number of requests that we receive, World Renew does not have capacity to find or suggest Constituent Groups for individual sponsors to partner with.
