Safeguarding

At World Renew, safeguarding is at the heart of how we work with communities, partners, and supporters around the globe. We are committed to preventing harm, responding with care, and ensuring accountability.

What is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding means protecting the dignity, rights, and well-being of all people we engage with, especially those most vulnerable to harm or exploitation. At World Renew, safeguarding is embedded in how we design programs, work with partners, and respond to concerns. We believe every person deserves to be treated with care, and strong safeguards are essential to maintaining trust, accountability, and integrity in our work.

Policies

Your trust matters to us—so we’re committed to handling your information with care, transparency, and respect.

The Code of Conduct Policy sets out the ethical standards and required behaviours for all staff and volunteers, ensuring accountability, respect, and integrity in our work.

This Code of Conduct Standard is signed by all who represent World Renew and guides safe, ethical, and respectful interactions, with a focus on protecting the vulnerable.

Our Child Safeguarding Policy ensures all staff and partners work to protect children and keep them safe from harm.

The Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Policy outlines our commitment to protecting at-risk adults—people who may be more vulnerable to harm—by ensuring dignity, preventing abuse, and guiding safe, responsible programs.

We are committed to preventing sexual exploitation and abuse, with clear standards to protect everyone we serve.

Our Whistleblower Policy supports safe, confidential reporting of concerns and promotes transparency and accountability in all we do.

We communicate our Christian faith with transparency and respect, while ensuring no one is pressured, coerced, or taken advantage of in our work.

Understanding Complaints

We are actively working with local staff, partners, participants, and members of our community to ensure our complaints mechanism is strong and effective.

What is a complaint?

A complaint is a specific concern raised when someone has a negative experience with World Renew or one of our partners, or feels we haven’t met a commitment or followed our policies. If something doesn’t feel right, we want to hear from you so we can address it and do better.

Who can complain?

Complaints can be submitted by anyone who participates in or is impacted by World Renew programs, World Renew’s partners and partner staff, donors, volunteers, and others involved in World Renew’s work, and World Renew staff members, including permanent and temporary staff, consultants, and contractors.

When to submit?

A complaint should ideally be submitted as soon as possible. World Renew will seek to handle and investigate all complaints as far as is possible. Staff members with complaints related to terms of employment or labour matters should contact their supervisors or the Human Resources department.

Our Commitment

Since 2023, World Renew has been certified according to the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS). The CHS is a globally recognized, measurable standard of quality and accountability in helping people affected by crisis. We’re grateful to be the first organization in Canada and second organization in the U.S. to achieve certification.

At program, national, and regional levels, complaints mechanisms will be communicated appropriately for each context. Complaints can also be addressed to the Safeguarding and Complaints Coordinator at World Renew by emailing complaints@worldrenew.org, by mail to one of the addresses below, or in person.
