World Renew is Preparing to Respond to Hurricane Isaias in the United States

World Renew Disaster Response truck preparing for disaster relief

In early October, a storm system now known as Hurricane Isaias began forming in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico, marking the start of the fall hurricane season. Isaias has gained strength and is expected to make landfall along the U.S. Gulf Coast as a Category 3 hurricane.

Currently, an estimated 30 million people live in the projected forecast and impact zone throughout Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. Alabama and Florida are currently under a state of emergency. The remnant effects of the storm, such as multiple inches of rainfall and strong winds, could also impact the Southeastern U.S. region.

World Renew Disaster Response Services is already monitoring the storm’s movement and forecasting future storms this season. Our team is coordinating with regional managers, local partners, and national VOAD members to prepare for disaster relief. As we assess needs, we begin preparing for long-term recovery, which could include assessing unmet needs, building local partner capacity, rebuilding homes, or supporting cleanup efforts.
