A Lifestyle Rooted in Giving
Being generous is a long-standing tradition in the Stubbs family from Vancouver, British Columbia. Evelyn (11) and Heidi (9) Stubbs have found a special way to give back—by choosing chickens from World Renew’s Gift Catalogue when celebrating birthdays and holidays.
Their choice is deeply personal. The sisters help care for four chickens in their own backyard, so they understand firsthand the value these animals bring—especially the steady supply of fresh eggs. Inspired by this experience, they regularly set aside part of their allowance to help provide chickens for families in other parts of the world.
Learning to Give by Example
“As a parent, I’ve worked at being an example of generosity for my children as a part of our lifestyle,” said their mom, Esther. “The World Renew catalogue is a concrete way to show where our donations go. It lets children be involved in identifying practical ways we can help others, such as purchasing chickens.”

“My own parents prioritized giving to help others,” she shared. “I’ve known about the World Renew gift catalogue since I was around my girls’ age, and last Christmas my parents gave a Nutrition Kit in my name.”
Now, Esther is passing that same spirit on to her daughters—creating a rhythm of generosity that connects generations.
“I’m following their example to help teach my own girls about generosity, and I trust World Renew to use my money wisely,” she said. “Being intentional about building a family tradition of generosity by including World Renew and the gift catalogue in our charitable giving changes lives.”
Through simple, everyday choices—like caring for backyard chickens and sharing what they have—the Stubbs family shows that creative fundraising can begin at home. Their story reminds us that generosity doesn’t have to be complicated or large-scale to make a difference. Instead, it can grow through small, intentional actions. When giving becomes part of daily life, it supports families around the world and helps shape the next generation to give with compassion, purpose, and joy.
