Sharing Love by Sharing Food

November 10, 2021
An adult and a young child sit close together indoors, facing each other and holding hands in a modest room.

This is Jamal—bright eyes and a big heart.

Nine years ago, Jamal’s family fled the terror of civil war to survive in Lebanon. Jamal has no memories of the home where his family once grew potatoes, beets, onions, and cotton. Throughout his young life, he has known only the heartbreak that comes with war and displacement.

He knows the hunger experienced by a family without a stable income. He knows the fear of living in a place where he is not always warmly received. From his earliest days, Jamal’s body has known what it means to yearn—for peace, for belonging, and for food.

A Church That Chose to Love Its Neighbours

Where Jamal and his family live today, there is a Lebanese church that has walked its own journey of healing after years of conflict and division. Their road has not always been easy. Yet they believe deeply that the love they have received in Christ is meant to be shared—freely and without borders.

For this church, sharing love also means sharing food with refugee families in their community. Working alongside World Renew and local partner MERATH, this church is one of many faith communities responding to hunger with compassion and dignity.

Each month, families like Jamal’s receive emergency food through vouchers and food boxes—practical support that helps fill empty cupboards and weary hearts alike.

Small Acts That Become Signs of Hope

Perhaps this church’s choice to love their neighbours by sharing food seems small compared to the scale of violence and loss caused by war. Yet these faithful acts of care are the very fabric of hope.

When communities choose generosity over fear, and compassion over indifference, something powerful happens: dignity is restored, trust takes root, and healing begins.

Today, refugees like Jamal continue to need access to safe, reliable food as they rebuild their lives far from home.
