Wansiewdor, 24, lives in a rural village in India with her husband and two children. Her husband works as a farmer and day labourer, but his income alone was not enough to meet their family’s basic needs.
In 2019, Wansiewdor joined a food security program run by World Renew’s local partner, NEICORD. The program equips women with skills and opportunities to strengthen their household income and increase food security.
“I attended trainings on bookkeeping, composting, and agriculture,” Wansiewdor shares. “The training motivated me and I started planting wheat, maize, paddy, pumpkin, and banana.”
Growing Skills, Growing Confidence
Wansiewdor quickly began to see the benefits of growing her own produce. “Food and fruit available at home reduced our expenses and improved our access to healthy food,” she explains.
Through the program, Wansiewdor also accessed a low‑interest loan, which she used to open a small tea stall and snack shop in her village. Smiling, she says, “With the profits I got from the tea stall and snack shop, I bought three piglets and I hope to expand our piggery business.”
By combining farming, business skills, and careful planning, Wansiewdor was able to create multiple sources of income for her family—helping them weather challenges that once felt overwhelming.
Resilience in the Face of Uncertainty
When COVID‑19 restrictions disrupted livelihoods across India, families who depended on daily wages were especially vulnerable. For Wansiewdor, the skills she had already put into practice made a critical difference.
“During the COVID‑19 lockdown our family would have struggled if I had not started farming prior to the lockdown,” she reflects.
Where she once worried constantly about feeding her children and faced the future with despair, Wansiewdor now looks ahead with confidence and hope.
“I hope to make enough money to build a concrete building for my shop,” she shares. “Ultimately, my aim is to provide quality education for my son and daughter. With NEICORD and World Renew’s help, I dream of having a better life.”
A Prayer for Communities Worldwide
Around the world, families continue to face challenges caused by climate pressures, economic instability, and conflict. Please pray for farmers as they learn conservation and climate‑smart practices that improve crop yields and protect the land. Pray for access to fair markets, so people can earn a sustainable income from their work.
Give thanks for local partners who work patiently to build peace and understanding in divided communities. Pray that trust continues to grow where there has been a history of tension or conflict.
Finally, pray for the staff and volunteers who travel to remote communities to support this work. Ask for safety, strength, and encouragement as they serve families striving for a more secure future.
