The Impact of Clean Water in Guatemala
Farming was a constant challenge. In 1998, Hurricane Mitch damaged the village’s water reservoir. Since then, all 175 families in Simona’s community lived without reliable access to clean water. Unsafe water contributed to illnesses such as diarrhea, fever, dysentery, and gastritis, making daily life even more difficult for families already facing economic hardship.
Simona’s family has always been committed to the well-being of their community. Many years ago, her father donated the land where the village school was built, helping create opportunities for future generations.
A Community Water System Restores Hope
After three years of working alongside community members, World Renew and our partner ADIP helped Concepción Actelá revitalize their community in 2019. Together, they raised funds and constructed a safe, reliable water distribution system that now serves the entire village. Clean water in Guatemala brings hope.
Today, Simona has access to safe water for her crops and clean drinking water for her children, Ingrid and Juana. The new water system has helped improve health, strengthen livelihoods, and create new opportunities for families throughout the community.
