COVID‑19 brought deep challenges to communities around the world, but it also opened space for resilience, adaptability, and shared action. Through one of World Renew’s partners in Bangladesh, members of the Ku‑Chalsan Federation participated in trainings focused on leadership, literacy, health, and income‑generating activities. They then put this learning into practice to support their wider community during a time of disruption and uncertainty.
Turning Learning into Action
When lockdowns began in 2020, many people were suddenly unable to work and regular savings became difficult to maintain. Responding to this shared struggle, 15 federation members launched a small‑scale farming initiative, cultivating ginger along with vegetables such as pumpkin, beans, and carrots. These crops were harvested and distributed to help support 35 families whose incomes had been affected during the pandemic.
For those who received support, the impact went beyond food alone.
Akhilbandhu Sanjib*, one of the family members involved, shared, “This federation has helped my family in our time of need, and they did it out of their love.”
Sustaining Community‑Led Growth
The Ku‑Chalsan Federation continues to work together to strengthen their community and build greater economic resilience. Profits from the ginger harvest are being reinvested to expand income‑generating activities, creating ongoing opportunities for members and their neighbours.
Sanjib is one of many who remain grateful for this collective effort: “I thank God for them and pray that he continues to bless this federation and all that they are doing.”
This story reflects World Renew’s ongoing commitment to community‑led development around the world. By adapting to changing realities and building on the strengths, relationships, and assets that already exist in each community, World Renew and its local partners continue to pursue wholistic change—rooted in dignity, resilience, and hope that endures well beyond a single season of crisis.
