Responding to Hurricane Helene

Collapsed building and damaged infrastructure after a natural disaster.

World Renew Disaster Response Services (DRS) is working in coordination with local officials and partner organizations to support a response to Hurricane Helene, which caused widespread devastation across multiple states. The storm made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane in the Florida Panhandle before moving inland through Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, and surrounding regions on September 26, 2024.

World Renew is accepting financial donations to support the Hurricane Helene response. These gifts help equip World Renew DRS to mobilize volunteers who assist with cleaning out damaged homes, addressing mold, and repairing and rebuilding in the hardest-hit communities.

Planning is underway to provide coordinated clean-up, repair, and reconstruction services for homeowners affected by high winds, storm surge, flooding, and mudslides. Partner organization Mennonite Disaster Services has established operations in Asheville, North Carolina, and World Renew DRS is collaborating to extend support in impacted communities.

With more than 50 years of experience, World Renew provides long-term, community-based disaster response across North America. In addition to immediate clean-up efforts, DRS supports long-term recovery work that may continue for several years as communities rebuild. Current efforts also include ongoing repair and rebuilding work in Sarasota, Florida, following Hurricane Ian in 2022.

Donations help families begin the journey toward recovery—restoring their homes, strengthening communities, and renewing hope in the midst of loss. Through DRS, trained volunteers come alongside homeowners to provide clean-up, rebuild support, and long-term recovery that often continues for months or even years after a disaster. You can learn more about our North American Disaster Response to help communities prepare for and respond to future disasters. Your support not only meets urgent needs in moments like this—it also ensures we are ready to respond when the next disaster strikes. Thank you for standing with communities as they recover and rebuild.
